Ice skating and hockey lessons held year-round at Carlson Ice Arena

Rockford Park District’s newly redesigned ice skating and hockey lessons offer the opportunity for those of any age to enjoy learning skills to enjoy recreational skating for a lifetime.

Group sessions for ages 3-adult of various skill levels are held year-round, and meet at Carlson Ice Arena in Loves Park.

The next sessions begin the weeks of May 9 and June 20, 2024. If a session is in progress, you can still join by calling 815-969-4069.

Lesson fees vary according to session type and residency.

For first-time skaters ages 18 months to two years, Baby Blades provides off-ice play and an on-ice lesson for six weeks on Thursday evenings, with required helmets provided, if needed.

Among ice skating programs offered for ages 3-16 are: First Strides, where first-time skaters will increase their confidence on the ice, and Super Strides, where students enhance their skills through games and fun. Lessons meet once a week for 30 minutes, either Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings, with skates and helmets provided if needed.

Pre-Hockey lessons for ages 3-16 provide an introduction to the sport to prepare players for the Park District’s Junior IceHogs Fundamental Hockey League. Minor Hawks for ages 3-16 serves as a transition from lessons to the Junior IceHogs Fundamental Hockey League. Hockey lessons meet once a week for 40 minutes, either Thursday evenings or Saturday afternoons; full hockey gear is recommended.
