Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition Postponed For Snowmaking Efforts

ROCKFORD, IL – More cold temperatures, please! Unfortunately, the 33rd Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition scheduled for January 16-19, 2019 at Sinnissippi Park, 1401 N. Second Street, Rockford, has been postponed to February 6-9, 2019, to provide enough time to make snow.

Since 2016, the District has relied on manmade snow versus Mother Nature providing enough snow, but temperatures still need to consistently remain cold enough to make snow.

“We are optimistic that pushing this event into February will give us enough time to make our own snow, thanks to a string of colder temperatures in the forecast. It’s never easy to make the decision to postpone the competition, but rain and a recent warmup made snowmaking impossible. We need consistent cold temperatures which provides the most favorable conditions to make snow and will provide the best blank canvas for our competitors to create their masterpieces,” says John Beck, Rockford Park District Events & Recreation Projects Manager.

This free family-friendly event has been postponed several times in the past but has never taken place in February.
