Swimming Lessons

Swim Lessons

The Rockford Park District offers swim lessons year-round. See all of our program descriptions below.

Bubble Club - (Available at Alpine & Sand Park)

Ages: 6 months - 3 years

Bubble Club includes basic water orientation skills led by our instructor, but taught by you. Parents must accompany children in the water. Taught in the main pool, this is a great opportunity for parents and toddlers to enjoy the water together. The primary goal is to get young children more comfortable around the water, and to begin learning critical skills of the Learn To Swim program.

Tiny Tots - (Available at Alpine & Sand Park)

Ages: 3-5 years

Tiny Tots is the next step after completing Bubble Club, except parents are nearby, but not in the water. This is primarily taught in the wading pool with lots of toys and games. In this level, participants learn supported floats and basic locomotion. Your child will also learn to feel safe in the water without parents.

Shelbert-Swim-Academy

Ages: 5-17 years

Since we can't seem to get Shelbert the Sea Turtle out of the water, we thought we would invite you to join him in the pool! Shelbert loves the water and wants his friends to be just as comfortable in his natural habitat. Learn the fundamentals of swimming and ultimately, how to swim by yourself. Shelbert's Swim Academy classes are taught in the main pool in at least three feet of water. On the first day of class, students are placed in the most appropriate of five levels. Each level has a specific set of objectives to achieve before moving to the next level.

Level One: Minnows

Students will focus on the following skills in this introductory level of swimming: front and back floats, utilizing kickboards, bobbing in the water, and proper breathing in water. Minnows will also begin combining arm strokes and kicking.

Lifeguard Training

Ellis and Associates Junior Lifeguard Program

Participants learn lifeguard rescues, CPR, AED, oxygen administration, and first aid. In addition, each child will shadow real lifeguards at Alpine or Sand Park Pool.

Ellis and Associates Advanced Junior Lifeguard Program

Did your son or daughter enjoy the Jr. Lifeguard Program last summer? If so, they can enjoy another summer filled with exciting opportunities. Second-year participants act as mentors for the new participants and help the new Jr. Lifeguards learn the various lifeguard skills. In addition, participants have the opportunity to shadow real lifeguards at Magic Waters Waterpark. Participants will work closely with Lead Lifeguards at training and on the stand. This is a great program for those who are interested in lifeguarding and learning what it takes to be a lifeguard in a fast-paced waterpark.
