Learn to Skate Classes
Learn to skate classes are offered for all ability levels - ages 3 and older. These United States Figure Skating sanctioned classes are progressive, so as their skills progress, participants will move on to the next level of classes. Skates provided for all levels. All classes meet one a week and are held at the Carlson Ice Arena.
Tiny Tots (ages 3-5)
Snowplow Sam 1-3 classes are designed for our tiniest skaters who want to discover the excitement of figure skating. Tots will learn to sit and stand up with skates on the ice, march in place, and other introductory skating skills.
Beginner/Intermediate (ages 6-16)
Basic 1-8 classes are for skaters who want to learn to ice skate, then continue building their skating skills. These classes are progressive, so as their skills progress, participants will move on to the next level of classes.
Advanced (ages 6-16)
The 4150 Club is designed to help skaters who have progressed through the Basic 1-8 levels to further develop their skating skills. Modeled after the US Figure Skating Bridge Program, the skater will be introduced to all of the elements in skating and what is required if they choose to continue to skate recreationally or begin a competitive career. The program content includes a variety of edgework, jumps, spins, ice dance, Artistry in Motion, Synchronized skating, as well as off-ice warm-up routines, stretching and educational sessions. Class will consist of 45 minutes of off-ice activities and 40 minutes on the ice.
Synchro (ages 6-16)
Synchronized skating classes are for skaters who have progressed through the Basic 5 level and want to learn the elementary holds, formations, and transition of synchronized skating. Emphasis will be on line and position rather than difficulty of steps. These classes are progressive, so as their skills progress, participants will move on to the next level of classes. Upon completion of Synchro 4, a skater should be prepared to participate on a synchronized team at the preliminary, youth introductory, or adult introductory level.
Adult (ages 17 and older)
You are never to old to learn to skate or improve your skating skills! These classes offer 15 minutes of warm-up time, 30 minutes of instruction, and 15 minutes of practice time.
