Frequently Asked Questions
Our programs are designed to accommodate any person, of any age, who would like to learn to skate. Each child is different, but we recommend the beginner start at the chair hockey or rink rat level. Our instructor can then determine whether he/she should be in a different level.
Will the instructors teach my child how to skate?
Of course!
Can I go out on the ice with my child?
In chair hockey, you must go out on the ice with your child. For all other classes, only the students and instructors are allowed on the ice.
What equipment does my child need to play hockey?
The Junior IceHogs lesson program provides free helmets and skates for you to use. Chair hockey and rink rats require protective elbow and knee pads. Ter-Mites 1-2 and Learn to Play Hockey require hockey-style shin pads, elbow pads and hockey gloves. Learn to Play Hockey students also need their own stick. Hockey pants, or breezers, are recommended, but not required.
Should I purchase hockey pads and hockey gloves even if my child is just learning?
Hockey pads and gloves are recommended, but not required. we've found that the more protected your child is, the less it will hurt when they fall, leading to increased confidence and best of all, more fun!
How should I dress my child for learn to play hockey?
Sweat-style pants or athletic pants are recommended (shin pads go underneath them). A warm sweatshirt and winter gloves, or hockey gloves, are also recommended.
If I miss a session, can I make it up in one of the other classes?
We do our best to accommodate requests. Simply talk to your instructor to give us a heads up!
How many instructors per participant?
We strive to keep our student/teacher ratio at 6:1. Several instructors are on the ice to help your child.
