Rockford Park District
The Rockford Park District will be 100 years old on March 27, 2009, and we're planning a year-long celebration for the entire community to enjoy!
To commemorate 100 years of service to our citizens, the Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens will form the cornerstone and centerpiece of the Centennial Celebration. This $8.1 million project is being financed entirely through private donations. We're also planning special events or enhancements to existing programs, including:

- Commemorative collector's hand painted holiday tree ornament
- History book by long time former Executive Director, Webbs Norman
- Special flower and landscape plantings and a Centennial tree program
- Production of the District's historical highlights at Rockford College's Maddox Theatre on March 27
- The Undertaker's Egg Hunt, the City's largest with 100,000 eggs, in April
- Turn Back the Clock golf event at Sinnissippi using hickory clubs, old-type balls, and period clothing, in May
- The annual Ice Show at Carlson Ice Arena will celebrate 100 years with a themed set, costumes, and guest skater, Evan Lysacek, in May
- Grand opening of the new "Typhoon Terror" thrill ride at Magic Waters
- Music in the Park special 100th anniversary concert
- Fishing derby for kids at Levings Lake in July
- X-Treme skateboard, rollerblade, and bike exhibitions and competitiuons at Harlem SkateWorks with pre-qualifying contests at Harlem SkateWorks and Elliot Skate Park in August
- "Report for Duty" to Camp Grant, Atwood Park, the largest military base in the Midwest, and visit with re-enactors, in September
